Village Design
An environmentally innovative new village on the edge of Lake Tewa, at the heart of Jack’s Point.
Planning & Development
The Design Guidelines have been developed in consultation with stakeholders and residents of Jack’s Point. To test the Design Guidelines and the relevant statutory documents, we set the renowned architects Monk Mackenzie and urban designers Barker & Associates the task of utilising these documents as reference to develop a scheme for the most challenging and important precincts within the centre of the Village and surrounding lakeside areas.
Key to the brief was that the concept be both commercially viable and address the requirements of the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP), such as public access, site environment, view aspects, transport corridors and car parking. The result is a stunning design incorporating a landscaped lake edge, visitor accommodation, residential and commercial activities such as retail, food and beverage, and public amenities.
Location
Just 10 minutes from the international airport, the Village is set in a spectacular location on the shores of Lake Tewa beneath the Remarkables mountain range. Orientated to a sunny northern exposure, the Village takes in breathtaking alpine and golf course views. The Village is the perfect base for activities and adventure just minutes from the Village.
Jack’s Point Village comprises 14.2ha of flat, readily buildable land alongside Lake Tewa at the heart of the broader Jack’s Point community.
The Village design incorporates a landscaped lake edge, visitor accommodation, residential and commercial activities such as stores, and cafés, backed by a strong live/work community base. Key to the Village design has been public access with open spaces and plazas, as well as managed vehicle access and car parking, encouraging electric vehicles and bicycles to reduce the carbon footprint.
Village design guidelines promote the use of sustainable materials and green engineering systems throughout its built environment, above and below ground. At Jack’s Point the planning philosophy is to tread lightly, carefully integrating a new community and activities into the land, with no disturbance to its intrinsic values. It is growing sustainably from the ground up, and being built using the stones that underlie the valley. Natural resources are harnessed and used judiciously. Jack's Point has its own water supply and waste water systems.
